Congratulations on either expecting or the much anticipated arrival of your newest little bundle of joy! I am honoured that you have chosen me to capture your baby's very first professional photographs. I do not take that privilege or responsibility lightly. Whether this is your first, second, third or fourth child this is such an incredible time for you and your family and I am so happy you have asked me to be a part of it all.
So now that you have secured your Newborn photography session what's next? Well, if your baby isn't already earth side then you can relax (or at least try to!) until he/she arrives. Once they're here safe and sound you can reach out to myself to let me know so that we can start discussing your session date and time as soon as possible. Ideally I like to have my Newborn clients come into my home based studio sometime between 4-8 days after birth because that is when they are at their tiniest, most pliable and sleepiest! I understand that in some cases mom and/or baby will need to be observed in the hospital for a longer period of time so if that is the case for you no problem! We will just make arrangements to get you in as soon as we possibly can after being discharged.
I have been carefully collecting a variety of props, wraps, bonnets, tiebacks, layers, etc that accurately represent my style and brand. If you have chosen me to be your photographer I think it is safe to assume you have done so because you enjoy my specific style. Because of this there is no need for you to bring along any props/outfits for your baby. If you have an heirloom or a specific item that holds great sentimental value that you would like for me to incorporate please just let me know ahead of time and also send me a photo of the item(s) so that I can properly prepare for it.
Do bring along plenty of diapers and wipes and if your baby is being formula fed please make sure you have plenty of that as well. Sometimes during these sessions babies will want to feed a little bit more excessively so it's best to come prepared.
A soother is also a great item to bring along. Sometimes a few sucks on that is all that it takes to allow baby to settle when positioning into a pose.
If you have selected a package that does not include Parent or Family posing then dress for comfort. I know us moms sometimes feel like we can't go out in public looking like a hot mess but I am here to tell you that this is a judgement free zone and I don't care if you come in your pyjamas! I've even had parents fall asleep on the couch!
If your package does include Parent/Family posing then I usually try to do these poses first because moving on to shots of just baby. Feel free to bring a comfortable change of clothes to change into immediately after your family shots. I also have a variety of dresses for Mom if you wish to wear something from my client closet.
The address to my home studio is 12600 Highway 1, Avonport N.S. B0P 1B0.
Take exit 9 and at the roundabout head towards West Brooklyn/Hantsport. I am the first house on the right hand side after the apartment buildings. It is a light tan coloured bungalow with double driveways, the first being immediately after the MAX 50 sign. Come in this driveway and you can drive straight down to the back side of the house and come to the back door.
Please note that I do have two medium sized dogs. They are Australian Shepherds and they are extremely friendly! Typically I will keep them inside until my clients arrive because they're very excitable and will sometimes jump up to greet people. After my clients have come inside I will let them outside for the duration of our session.
I understand that not everyone are dog people so I just like to mention this ahead of time. If you have any issues with this please let me know right away and I will make other arrangements for my pups.
