Our family loves maple syrup! I mean, who doesn't really?! Making our own has been a topic that has been brought up on many occasions since we bought our home roughly 5 years ago, which happens to have quite a few maple trees scattered about the property. So finally it begins, today is the first day of our maple syrup production journey.
We aren't doing this alone though. We have teamed up with amazingly great friends of ours, Josh and Kristi. Josh is the expert behind the whole operation and we are thrilled to be working along side and learning from him. Josh has taught us a lot over the years from planting and harvesting our own vegetable gardens to proper care for our landscaping to helping our indoor plants thrive so there is no doubt in my mind he wont teach us everything there is to know about making maple syrup! All of us will each be doing our part throughout the entire process and working as a team. With 12 taps on our property and even more at a few other locations, we plan on producing a lot of syrup this year and we are all super excited about it!
Did you know Canada produces 80% of the world’s pure maple syrup? How cool is that?? And Canada exports this sweet goodness to approximately 50 different countries. The best part is that it is 100% pure and natural and is a great substitute for artificial or granulated sweeteners such as white sugar. Woohoo!
You may be wondering why this is on my photography blog.. Well there's no good reason really other than I took some photos today, lol! This blog will mainly be for photography related topics and client's photos but occasionally you may see a personal post such as this one pop up, I hope you don't mind :)
Until next time!
Last weekend I had the opportunity to spend a few hours with Jax and his Mommy and Daddy for a Posed Newborn Session. I want to start this post off by saying that I really, really, really love doing these sessions! Sure they require a lot more work both during and after the session in post processing, and a lot more safety precautions but they are totally worth it! With each of my newborn sessions I try to step up my game by tackling something new that I haven't yet tried or want more practice doing. Composite shots (taking multiple shots to create 1 final image) are challenging me to enhance my Photoshop skills which is always a plus in my books. This year I would like to take on as many newborn sessions as I possibly can so that I can continue to master the art and who knows, maybe it will become one of my areas of specialties in the future ;).
When Jax arrived at the studio he was sound asleep so I wanted to quickly start getting him undressed and into some poses before he woke up for his feeding. So straight to work we went (me and my assistant for the day which also happens to be my mom). I cannot stress how important it is to have extra hands for these types of sessions, you just cannot tackle them alone. And having my mom as my assistant rather than the baby's parents was great because it gave Mommy and Daddy a chance to just sit back and relax (which we all know doesn't happen very often when there is a new little bundle of joy in the house). And I was able to be a just little bit bossy, sorry mom ;). He really was the perfect little model. We kept expecting him to wake up at any moment, but he just didn't, he slept and slept and slept... Towards the end of our session he finally opened his eyes and had a little snack - or big snack I should say, so after his belly was full I took advantage and grabbed a few final shots. Here are a few photos from our session, I hope you enjoy them as much as I enjoyed capturing them. Isn't he handsome!?

*Middle left and bottom right are composite shots. Please never attempt these types poses at home as they will jeopardize the safety of your child.
Much love <3
Okay, so I have been doing a number of Boudoir sessions lately and I gotta say, they really are one of my favorite types of sessions to do. If you are reading this and are thinking to yourself something along the lines of "Why would anyone want to do that", or "That's trashy", etc, etc, etc.. then I encourage you to keep on reading.
I am a proud Mommy of two beautiful children, loving wife to the most amazing life partner a gal could ask for and I am in love with photography.
